What is Meta Business Suite? What it is used for, what it costs and how to fix it

Meta Business Suite is Meta's free dashboard for running a business's Facebook and Instagram presence from one place: you schedule posts, stories and reels, answer messages and comments in one inbox, read insights and create simple ads. Meta says it is free to use on desktop and in the mobile app; you pay only for the ads you choose to run. It is not a full CRM, although it does include a basic leads pipeline and contact notes.

What is Business Suite?

Business Suite is a single dashboard for the day-to-day work of a business on Meta's apps. Everything below comes from Meta's own pages as they read on 13 October 2026. The pages are not dated, so treat the wording as current on that day.

Meta's Business Help Centre describes it as a tool that helps small businesses and creators manage their presence across Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp in one place. The Meta for Business product page puts it more simply: one place for your marketing and advertising on Facebook and Instagram, on desktop or mobile.

To use it, your business needs a business portfolio, the container that holds your Page, Instagram account and ad account and the people who can reach them. Our post on Ads Manager, Business Suite and business portfolios covers how those three fit together, how to log in and what to check when you cannot get in.

Is Meta Business Suite free, or does it cost money?

It is free. Meta's help page says Business Suite is "free to use on desktop and in the Meta Business Suite mobile app". The pages we read mention no subscription and no paid tier for the tool itself.

What does cost money is advertising. When you create an ad in Business Suite, Meta asks for a daily budget and a payment method, and the ad account you pick is charged. Scheduling posts, answering messages and reading insights involve no charge on any page we read.

Is Meta Business Suite a CRM?

Not in the usual sense, and Meta does not call it one in any page we read. It does have two features that cover part of what a small business uses a CRM for.

  • Leads Centre tracks leads from lead ads, ads that click to message and organic messaging. It has a pipeline view with stages such as Intake, Qualified and Converted, plus owners, labels, notes and reminders. You can upload leads from a spreadsheet and export them as a CSV file.
  • Contacts hold details about people who interact with your business: name, email address, phone number, private notes and labels, managed from Leads Centre and Inbox.

Both are built around people who reached you through Meta's apps or ads. If your customers mostly arrive by other routes, our reading is that Business Suite is better treated as the place those conversations start, with the CSV export as the bridge to whatever system you keep customers in.

What Meta Business Suite is used for

Meta's overview page lists the main jobs. These are the ones a small advertiser is likely to touch.

The main things you can do in Meta Business Suite, from Meta's help pages
AreaWhat you can do there
Posts, stories and reelsCreate, publish or schedule content for Facebook and Instagram, save drafts, and customise the text for each app. A story takes up to ten photos or videos.
PlannerSee scheduled and published content in a weekly or monthly calendar, schedule from a date, reschedule or delete.
InboxRead and reply to Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp messages and to Facebook and Instagram comments, filter and label conversations and set up automated replies.
InsightsOrganic and paid results for a Page or Instagram profile: views, interactions, link clicks, audience demographics and a benchmark against similar businesses.
AdsCreate a simple ad or boost existing content, then follow it in the Ads tab. Meta points you to Ads Manager for detailed campaigns.

The details come from Meta's pages on posts, stories, the planner, Inbox and Insights. On the difference between a boost and a campaign, see Facebook ads vs boosted posts.

How to use Meta Business Suite to schedule a post

Scheduling is the task most people open it for. These are the desktop steps from Meta's page on creating and managing posts. You need full control of the Page or Instagram account, or content permission for it.

  1. 01

    Open Create post

Go to business.facebook.com and click Create post, on the home page or the Content tab.
  2. 02

    Choose where it goes

Under Post to, select your Facebook Page, your Instagram profile or both.
  3. 03

    Add media and text

Add photos under Media and write the text under Post details. Meta notes a limit of ten photos for a post going to Instagram.
  4. 04

    Set the time

Under Scheduling options, pick a date and time, then click Schedule. Meta's scheduling page says the post then appears in the Planner tab and under Content, Scheduled.

Desktop and the mobile app

Business Suite runs in a browser at business.facebook.com and as an app for iOS and Android. Meta's page on the mobile home screen says the app shows notifications, recent content, ads from the last 14 days and insights, with content, Inbox and other tools on a menu bar at the bottom. You can schedule posts, stories and reels from the app too.

Some things are desktop only. The All tools section, which leads to Ads Manager, Events Manager and Billing and payments, is described for desktop. Meta's crossposting page says crossposting to Threads is available on desktop only.

Meta Business Suite not posting to Instagram, and other common problems

First rule out an outage: our post on whether Meta's tools are down shows how to read Meta's status page, which lists Business Suite. If that is clear, these are the fixes Meta's own pages give.

You cannot create, schedule or publish a postYou lack access to publish on that Page or Instagram account.Ask the owner of the portfolio or asset to assign you access to it.
A scheduled post did not go outA system error stopped it publishing at its time.Open Content, then Scheduled, find the post marked as failed and click Publish now.
Not posting to InstagramAn unresolved issue on the Instagram account, or an account that has been hacked.Log in on the Instagram app, follow any pop-up notification, then try again in Business Suite.
Instagram is not offered as a destinationThe Page and Instagram profile must be connected and in the same portfolio, and only a professional Instagram profile can be added.Connect the two, switching the Instagram account to professional if asked. An Instagram profile can sit in one portfolio only.
A reel reaches Facebook but not InstagramA reel made from photos cannot be posted to Instagram, and bulk-uploaded reels go to the Facebook Page only.Build the reel from a video, and create it singly if it needs to reach Instagram.

The first three rows are from Meta's article on errors creating, scheduling or publishing posts. The fourth draws on the crossposting page, the article on why an Instagram profile cannot be added and the connection steps. The fifth is from the pages on reels and bulk upload; the advice in its last column is our inference from those two limits.

Meta Business Suite not uploading video. We found no Meta help page about failed video uploads in Business Suite itself. The nearest is its page on troubleshooting video ad uploads, written for ads and not for organic posts. Its checklist is still a reasonable place to start: use an MP4 or MOV file, stay under the 4 GB maximum, check the length against the placement, update your browser and make sure the connection is strong. If a video passes all of those and still will not upload, Meta's pages offer nothing further.
