A Foreplay alternative for teams that want the finished ad

Foreplay is a research and workflow tool for creative teams: you save ads, track brands and write briefs for the people who make your ads. Mockingbird is narrower. It watches the competitors you choose on Meta, ranks their ads every day, and rebuilds the one you pick as a finished image ad in your brand. Choose by which half of the job you need help with.

What Foreplay is

Foreplay's pricing page lists five products: a Swipe File for saving ads, Discovery, a searchable library it puts at more than 200 million ads, Spyder for tracking brands, Lens for creative analytics, and Briefs. It covers the Meta Ad Library, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and Google's Transparency Center, with a Chrome extension and a mobile app.

This description is taken from Foreplay's own website as it read on 7 October 2026.

What Foreplay offers that Mockingbird does not

  • Ads from several platforms in one place: Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and Google.
  • A shared swipe file and briefs, built for a team that hands work to designers or creators.
  • Creative analytics (Lens).
  • A free trial.

What Mockingbird does

You paste a competitor's Facebook Page once. Mockingbird reads their active ads from the Meta Ad Library, removes duplicates, and checks for new ones every day. Each ad is scored on public signals, such as how long it has run and how many versions exist, and the strongest arrive in a daily feed with a reason for each.

Pick an ad and Mockingbird rebuilds its layout and hook from your brand profile: colours, fonts, voice and product. The competitor's name, imagery and claims are not carried over. You download a finished image ad sized for feed and stories and upload it in Meta Ads Manager. See how it works or the examples.

Which one to choose

Choose Foreplay if:

  • You advertise on TikTok, LinkedIn or YouTube as well as Meta.
  • You have designers or creators and need a shared library and briefs to direct them.
  • You want creative analytics alongside the research.

Choose Mockingbird if:

  • Meta is your main channel.
  • Nobody on the team has time to turn a saved ad into a finished one.
  • You want a daily shortlist with reasons, not a library to search.

The two are not exclusive. Some teams research in one tool and produce in another.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Foreplay and Mockingbird?

Foreplay is a research and workflow tool: its site lists a swipe file, an ad library, brand tracking, creative analytics and briefs, across several ad platforms. Can I use Foreplay and Mockingbird together?

Yes. They cover different parts of the work. Some teams collect and organise references in a research tool and use Mockingbird to turn a chosen competitor ad into a finished ad for their own brand.

How much does Foreplay cost?

On 7 October 2026 Foreplay's website listed its Basic plan at 59 US dollars a month, Workflow at 175 and Agency at 459, each with a 7-day free trial. Prices change, so check Foreplay's own pricing page. Mockingbird's current prices are on its pricing page.
