How to use the Facebook Ad Library for product research
To use the Facebook Ad Library for product research, choose a country, set the ad category to All ads, and search for the product as a keyword or as an exact phrase in quotation marks. Then read the start date, the number of ads sharing a creative and the platforms on each listing. The library is free and needs no account. It shows what sellers are paying to advertise, not what is selling: there is no spend, sales or performance data for commercial ads.

The free Facebook Ad Library, and what it is good for
The Meta Ad Library asks for no payment, and its own FAQ says anyone can explore it with or without a Facebook account. Everything in this post was checked there, logged out, on 13 October 2026, and against Meta's help pages on the same day.
For product research it answers one narrow question well: which products are being advertised on Meta's apps in a country right now, by whom, and with what creative. That makes it useful for a dropshipping or ecommerce seller deciding what to look at more closely. It cannot tell you whether any of those ads make money. If you have never opened the library, the Meta Ad Library guide covers the basics, which are not repeated here.
How to search the Meta Ad Library: keyword, exact phrase or advertiser
There is one search box, labelled "Search by keyword or advertiser", and it works in three ways. The library's Search tips panel asks you to set a location and an ad category first, so pick the country and All ads before typing.
| Search | How to do it | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword | Type the words. The Search tips panel says this finds ads containing all of the words, in any order. | You are exploring a product type and want the widest view. |
| Exact phrase | Put the phrase in quotation marks. The panel says you can add a second quoted phrase to require both. | A keyword search returns too much, or the words are common on their own. |
| Advertiser | Type a name and choose the Page. Meta's Help Centre says you then see the active ads from that advertiser's Pages. | You have found a seller and want everything it is running. |
Exact-phrase search does work. A two-word product term we tried as a keyword returned a count in the tens of thousands for one country; a longer quoted phrase returned a few dozen, and the results page stated that the ads matched an exact phrase search. The count is approximate, and it counts ads, not sellers or orders.
Meta's Business Help Centre page adds that a search can return ads that include the term and ads run by Pages whose name includes it. So expect some results where the word appears only in the Page name.
Facebook Ad Library search filters, and what each is for
After a keyword search the Filters panel listed six settings. These are the labels as they appeared.
| Filter | Options shown | Use in product research |
|---|---|---|
| Language | A language selector | Removes ads written for another market. |
| Advertiser | An advertiser selector | Narrows a keyword search to one seller. |
| Platform | Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network, Messenger, WhatsApp, Threads | Shows where a product is being pushed. |
| Media type | All media types, images, images with little to no text, memes, images and memes, videos, no image or video | Separates video ads from static ones. Two further options tie the search term to text inside an image, or to a video's transcript or ad copy. |
| Active status | Active and inactive, active ads, inactive ads | Leave on active ads for commercial research outside the EU and UK. |
| Impressions by date | An exact date or a date range | Limits results to ads shown in that period. |
Next to Filters, Sort by offers two orders: "Impressions: high to low" and "Most recent". Our searches opened in the first. The library does not display an impression figure for commercial ads, so that order is a rough ranking you cannot check, not a measurement. Switching to most recent shows what has just been launched.
What a listing tells you, and what it does not
| On the listing | What it is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Started running on, with a date | The day the ad first appeared on Meta's apps, per Meta's Help Centre. | Proof the ad is profitable. |
| "N ads use this creative and text" | Several separate ads share one image or video and one piece of copy. | A count of sales, or of budget. |
| "This ad has multiple versions" | One ad holds several variations, opened through See ad details. | A sign of which version works best. |
| Platforms icons | The apps the ad is shown on. | Which placement gets the spend. |
| The creative, copy and destination link | The offer as a buyer sees it: price, angle, format and where the click goes. | The seller's cost, margin or supplier. |
Spend, impressions, clicks, conversions and return are absent for ordinary commercial ads. Meta's Business Help Centre table marks amount spent and impression ranges as not shown for them. The detail is in does the Meta Ad Library show ad spend?
How to use the Facebook Ad Library for dropshipping and ecommerce research: a routine
- 01
Set the country you sell in, and All ads
Results are per country. Research the market you will ship to, not the one you happen to be sitting in. - 02
Search the product as a buyer would name it
Start with a plain keyword search. Note the approximate result count, then try two or three other names for the same thing. - 03
Tighten with an exact phrase
Put the most specific wording in quotation marks. Add a second quoted phrase, such as a benefit or an offer term, to cut the list further. - 04
Filter, then change the sort order
Set the language, keep active ads, and choose a media type if you only make one kind of ad. Look at the list in both sort orders. - 05
Record the same facts for each listing
Start date, the grouping or versions label, platforms, format, price and offer, and the destination. Count how many different Pages advertise the same product. - 06
Open the sellers that keep appearing
Use the advertiser search to see everything a Page is running. One product among many short-lived ads reads differently from one product behind most of a Page's ads. - 07
Save the links and come back
Meta's Help Centre says the Options menu on a listing has Copy ad link, which opens that ad directly. Check again in a few weeks to see what is still active.
The limits to keep in mind
- A long run is a signal, not proof. It shows an advertiser kept an ad switched on. It may have been forgotten, or the seller may have margins you do not. See how long has a Facebook ad been running?
- You see only what is live. Meta's Help Centre says that for all ads you can search those currently active. Ads delivered in the EU or UK are archived for a year after their last impression; elsewhere a stopped commercial ad leaves the library, so products that were tried and dropped are invisible.
- Many ads on a product can mean a crowded market. That is our reasoning, not Meta's. The library shows how many are advertising, not whether there is room for another seller.
- Some creative is hidden when logged out. The Business Help Centre says ads with certain age-restricted content are not shown to people who are not logged in.

Questions people ask
How do I use the Facebook Ad Library for dropshipping product research?
Open the Meta Ad Library, choose the country you sell in and the All ads category, then search for the product as a keyword or as an exact phrase in quotation marks. Note each listing's start date, how many ads share the creative, the platforms and the offer, and check back later to see which ads are still active. It shows what sellers are advertising, not what is selling.
How do I search the Meta Ad Library for an exact phrase?
Put the phrase in quotation marks in the search box. The library's Search tips panel says this matches the words in that order, and that you can add a second quoted phrase to require both. Without quotation marks it finds ads containing all of the words in any order.
Is the Facebook Ad Library free?
Yes. The Meta Ad Library asks for no payment, and its own FAQ says anyone can explore it with or without a Facebook account. Reporting an ad and viewing some age-restricted content require you to be logged in.
Can the Facebook Ad Library show which products are selling?
No. For ordinary commercial ads it shows the creative, the start date and the platforms, but no spend, impressions, clicks or sales. A long-running ad shows that an advertiser kept paying for it, which is a signal worth testing and not proof that the product sells.
Try it on your own competitors.
