Meta ads certification and Meta Blueprint's free courses, explained
A Meta ads certification is a credential you earn by passing a proctored exam run by Meta. On 13 October 2026 Meta listed seven certifications, from the beginner Digital Marketing Associate to the advanced Marketing Science Professional, and said exams cost between the equivalent of USD 99 and USD 150 depending on your country. The training that prepares you for them, Meta Blueprint, is free.

What Meta Blueprint is
Everything in this post that is not marked as our view comes from Meta's own pages as they read on 13 October 2026. The pages carry no publication date, and Meta changes exam details and prices, so check the linked page before you pay for anything.
Meta Blueprint is Meta's free online training for advertising and marketing on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Its home page lists three things: self-guided courses you take in your own time, live webinars with Meta staff, and certification.
The first two are training. The third is an exam. Meta's page on how certification differs from the free courses says the courses teach the basics and best practices of advertising on its platforms, while certification "measures advanced-level professional competency" through a proctored exam and gives you a credential other people can check.
Meta ads certification: the current list
Meta's certification page listed seven certifications on 13 October 2026, each with a level and an exam code. The five it groups as role-based are the ones about advertising.
| Certification | Level Meta gives | Exam | Valid for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digital Marketing Associate | Beginner | 100-101: 60 questions, 90 minutes | Two years |
| Media Buying Professional | Intermediate | 410-101: 60 questions, 105 minutes | One year |
| Media Planning Professional | Intermediate | 400-101: 60 questions, 105 minutes | One year |
| Creative Strategy Professional | Intermediate | 300-101: 60 questions, 105 minutes | One year |
| Marketing Science Professional | Advanced | 200-101: 60 questions, 105 minutes | One year |
The pass mark on each of these exams is 700 out of 1,000. The other two certifications on the list are skill-based: Community Management (beginner, exam 600-101) and Business Marketing Strategy (intermediate, exam 800-101, marked as new).
Below the certifications Meta lists four specialist badges: Media Measurement Specialist, AI and Performance Marketing Specialist, Technical Implementation Specialist and Creator Marketing Specialist. These are not separate exams. Meta says each needs a certification you already hold, and is earned by completing a set of courses and passing an assessment. Two of the four require the Media Buying Professional certification specifically.
Is there a Meta Ads Manager certification?
Not by that name. No certification on Meta's list is called a Meta Ads Manager certification. Two of them are largely about working in Ads Manager, and which one fits depends on your experience.
- Digital Marketing Associate. Meta's page for exam 100-101 gives 44% of the exam to creating and managing ads: the difference between boosting a post and building an ad in Ads Manager, and the settings at campaign, ad set and ad level. A further 23% is advertising fundamentals, including campaign objectives and the Meta pixel. Meta describes it as entry-level, for students, jobseekers and people changing careers.
- Media Buying Professional. Meta's page for exam 410-101 splits it into campaign activation (38%), campaign optimisation (26%), reporting (20%) and creative strategy (16%). Activation covers setting up campaigns in Ads Manager, building audiences and connecting data sources. Meta lists media buyers, account managers and social media managers among the intended audience.
The Media Planning Professional exam is aimed at planners instead: 38% of it is planning a campaign, and the rest covers reading reports, safety and privacy, and assessing business goals.
What the exams cost and how they are taken
Meta's page on exam cost says certification exams range between the equivalent of USD 99 and USD 150, that the actual cost may differ by country, and that you see your price at checkout. The page does not say which exam sits at which end of that range, and it gives no price in any other currency.
On where you can take an exam, Meta gives two options open to everyone: online, proctored, on your own computer at home or in an office, or in person at a Pearson VUE test centre. You have to book at least one day ahead.
Meta's registration steps run through CertMetrics, the account system it uses for exams. In short:
- 01
Pick the exam in CertMetrics
Each exam page on Meta's site has a register link that takes you there. - 02
Choose how you will sit it
Online or at a test centre. For online delivery Meta asks you to run a system check on the computer you will use. - 03
Choose language and time, then pay
The Digital Marketing Associate exam was offered in seven languages and the Media Buying and Media Planning exams in nine on the day we read the pages.
There is no required course before any exam. Meta's page on becoming certified lists no prerequisites for the certifications, only a recommendation to use the Blueprint study material. If you fail, Meta's retake rules say you wait five days and pay the full fee again; there is no stated limit on attempts.
How long a certification lasts and how it is renewed
Meta's page on expiry gives two years from the date of issue for Digital Marketing Associate and Community Management, and one year for the Media Buying, Media Planning, Marketing Science and Creative Strategy Professional certifications.
Renewal, on Meta's recertification page, opens six months before the expiry date and works differently by level:
- Digital Marketing Associate: you sit the same 100-101 exam again.
- The Professional certifications: before expiry you can take a refresh, which Meta describes as free, self-paced and unproctored: about two hours of online courses and a pass or fail assessment you can retry after 24 hours. Once the certification has lapsed, the refresh is gone and you sit the full exam.
- Specialist badges: Meta's badge renewal page says you retake the courses and assessment, which resets the badge for 12 months, and that the certification it depends on must still be active.
Free Meta ads courses, and a Meta Ads Manager tutorial for beginners
The free material is on Meta's Blueprint courses page. It is a catalogue of short self-guided courses that open on Meta's own learning site, facebookblueprint.com. Titles on the page on 13 October 2026 included courses on aligning business goals with campaign objectives, selecting objectives and conversion settings, managing audiences and reach, campaign activation tools and Advantage+, and partnership ads.
If you are looking for a Meta Ads Manager tutorial for beginners in 2026, the most direct route we found on Meta's site is the Digital Marketing Associate exam page. It links to a learning path of free courses built for that exam, a study guide with a glossary, and a 30-question practice test. You can work through all of it without ever booking the exam. The material is maintained by the company that builds Ads Manager, which is the main thing a 2026 course needs to get right.
The best Facebook ads course: how to judge one (our view)
This section is our opinion, not Meta's. We do not rank or recommend paid courses, and no page we read from Meta does either. People searching for the best Facebook ads course or the best Meta Ads Manager course are usually deciding whether to pay, so here is how we would decide.
- Start with the free material. Meta's courses cover setup, objectives, audiences, placements, budgets and reporting. A paid course has to offer something those do not: feedback on your own account, a worked example in your industry, or a teacher you can ask.
- Check who teaches it. Look for a named person who runs ad accounts now and says what kind. Someone who spends a small budget for local businesses learns different lessons from someone buying for a large online shop.
- Check the screens. A Facebook ads 2026 course should show Ads Manager as it looks today. Open Ads Manager beside the preview lessons; if the objectives, menus or campaign types on screen do not match yours, the course is out of date whatever its title says.
- Be wary of promised results. No course controls your product, your prices or your market. One that guarantees a return is selling the guarantee.
What a certification does and does not prove
What it proves, on Meta's description: that a named person passed a proctored, multiple-choice exam on the listed topics, with a score of at least 700 out of 1,000, within the last one or two years. Meta issues a digital badge that it says can be verified online, and points to a Credly directory of people who have chosen to share their status. If a freelancer or agency tells you they are certified, ask for the badge link and check the expiry date.
What it does not prove is our inference, not Meta's wording. An exam tests what someone knows about the tools and Meta's recommended practice. It does not show the results they have produced in a real ad account, how they handle a budget that is not theirs, or whether their ads are any good. A certified buyer and an uncertified one with three years of accounts to show you are offering different kinds of evidence, and the second kind is usually more useful when hiring.
For someone running their own ads, the exam is optional. The free learning path is built around the same topics, and what you learn shows up in your own results whether or not you sit the test. Our posts on how Facebook ad campaigns work and campaign objectives cover the first steps, and our guide to publishing ads on Meta walks through Ads Manager.
